The Article: "DOJ: We can force you to decrypt that laptop"

Background: The Department of Justice wants to compel a person to enter (not disclose...just enter) her encryption key into her laptop, which was seized during a legal search, in order to determine if any of the files can be used as evidence against her as part of a fraud investigation.

  1. The prosecution bears the burden of proving a defendant guilty. However, forcing a defendant to help prove herself guilty is unlawful. Sure, if the crime was against me, I would want all possible evidence open and available, but it's not a reason to take away freedoms protected by the Constitution, ie 5th Amendment. That's what I think.
